17th Anniversary for Michael’s Genuine in Miami Design District

Over the last 17 years, Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink has become a beloved part of the Miami Design District, observing its transformation from a concept to an established part of the city. To mark their 17th anniversary, the restaurant is holding a celebration, complete with cake and Champagne toast, inviting both loyal patrons and new faces alike. “The support and patronage we’ve received in these 17 years have been overwhelming,” says Michael Schwartz, the restaurant’s chef and owner. “Whether you’re a regular, or visiting us for the first time, we extend an invitation for you to join our celebration in March.”

In 2007, Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, under the guidance of Chef Schwartz, was at the forefront of the burgeoning food scene in the Miami Design District. His principle back then, which still holds true, was to be “genuine,” signifying the delivery of freshly prepared, considerate cuisine. This led to the establishment of the Genuine Hospitality Group, which has been behind the launch of local hotspots like Amara at Paraiso and Harry’s Pizzeria. Consistent with his careful approach at Michael’s Genuine, Chef Schwartz was awarded a James Beard Award in 2010 and in 2022, the restaurant received a Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition. Michael’s Genuine has repeatedly earned the New Times’ “Best Restaurant (Design District/Midtown)” award, with the most recent achievement in 2022. It also features on our yearly round-up of essential Miami restaurants in 2024.

With a history nearing two decades, the restaurant continues to adhere to its sincere philosophy while evolving with the dynamic Miami culinary landscape. Back in 2021, the classic venue underwent a significant makeover. Executive Chef Bradley Herron has kept the menu relevant, while still honoring its timeless favorites. The restaurant will have a weeklong celebration from Monday, March 18 to Friday, March 22. Patrons who book dinner during this period will enjoy a complimentary glass of Champagne Lallier and a slice of confetti birthday cake. Though the menu varies with the seasons, popular dishes will be available, including a selection from the raw bar, appetizers such as the wood oven-roasted octopus, and entrees like the slow-roasted short rib, roasted cauliflower “shawarma,” wood-roasted grouper, steak au poivre, and pan-roasted Poulet Rouge half chicken. Join Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink’s 17th anniversary celebrations at 130 NE 40 St., Miami, from 5.30 p.m. until closing. Reservations can be made via opentable.com.
