Cardi B has opened up about contending with anxiety. The 31-year-old rapper described how she had “lost” herself and often felt “scared” about making public appearances throughout 2023 in a fresh interview. “I released very little music last year,” she confessed in a recent 360 with Speedy interview. “It felt like I was terrified to do anything.”

The rapper known for the “I Like It” hit song said she felt like she had lost herself in everything. She added that there are many music critics and others who tend to assume that she is too scared to release a new album or song.

Cardi’s previous album, Invasion of Privacy, came out in 2018. Despite releasing songs such as “Bongos” with Megan Thee Stallion in 2023, her fans are eagerly waiting for another full-length studio album. Earlier this month, Cardi introduced her latest singles, “Like What (Freestyle)” and “Enough (Miami).”

Cardi recalled in the interview how she was uncertain about releasing her remix of Ice Spice’s “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in 2022. She noted that while she liked “the track,” she didn’t appreciate the way her voice sounded.

“Creating music using a drill beat isn’t as simple as it might seem,” Cardi admitted. “I worried that I and the song would be harshly criticized… I already liked the original track, I didn’t wish to ruin it. I detested my verse… I felt utterly embarrassed because I just couldn’t get the rhythm right.”

Throughout 2023, the “WAP” singer felt “scared to go live” due to negative opinions about her looks and music. “I feared posting a photograph, stepping out in the club, and waking up the next day to criticism about my appearance and everything else,” said Cardi. She mentioned how she began discussing politics, primarily when she welcomed Senator Bernie Sanders to her social media in 2019. “I’m fond of discussing politics. However, I no longer wish to do so because I’m petrified of facing criticism each day. I’m simply exhausted,” she concluded.

One of the largest stories about Cardi revolved around the deterioration of her relationship with Offset in public. They were wed in 2017 and had a tumultuous romance. By the middle of 2023, she admitted to her social media followers that they were experiencing marital problems after Offset accused her of infidelity. Despite mending their relationship over the summer, they separated before the beginning of 2024.
