Pokemon Fan Identifies Gen 1 Creatures Yet to Receive New Forms

A recent chart created by a Pokemon enthusiast highlights all 40 creatures from the franchise’s debut generation that have not been updated with new forms in subsequent games. The updated Pokemon games often introduce modifications to existing Pokemon, however, many from the original lineup seem to have been overlooked during the last 28 years.

The Pokemon series originated with Pokemon Red, Green, and Blue launched in 1996 and is perhaps the most recognized version of the game. However, while certain Pokemon such as Pikachu, Eevee, and Charizard have been updated over time, many of the original generation Pokemon are still unaltered.

Recently, a Pokemon enthusiast named pepe_grillo compiled a chart exhibiting all the original creatures that have not been updated with new designs like regional variations in later versions of the game. Out of the original 151 Pokemon, about 40 of them have not been redesigned. This includes well-known creatures like Psyduck, Ditto, Starmie, Dragonite, the entire Nido family, and some less well-known ones like Dewgong, Paras, and Goldeen.

In response to pepe_grillo’s post, several fans expressed disappointment about the absence of new designs for these original Pokemon. Among the favorites were the Nido species which include the male and female Nidoran, Nidorino, Nidoking, Nidorina, and Nidoqueen. Fans suggested that regional or Paradox variations for Nidoking and Nidoqueen would be a great addition.

Despite the lack of official variants for some of these creatures, fan art featuring new forms of these Pokemon is not hard to find. For instance, a fan created regional transformations for Psyduck last year, presenting a Water/Psychic-type variant of the creature. In this new evolutionary line, Psyduck and Golduck were redesigned following themes like meditation, and a new evolution called Ascenduck was added.

A similar example from last year was a fan who conceived past and future Paradox forms for Ditto, with the past form named Mimic Spike and the future version called Iron Reproduction. These concepts redesigned the original Ditto, drawing inspiration from a stalagmite and a hologram respectively. Although fans are hoping for updated forms for these original Pokemon in future games, fans themselves are also taking up the task of creating new forms.

Pokemon is a well-renowned franchise that extends beyond games to television, films, manga, merchandise, and music, making it one of the most successful media empires in history. It was created by Satoshi Tajiri.
