God of War Player Discovers Real-Life Easter Egg
In an unexpected real-life turn of events, a God of War player comes across an ancient-looking stone tablet apparently originating from the game. Visible in the game itself, the stone tablets add extra dimensions and narratives to the God of War environment, especially as the leading character, Kratos, explores a fairly unknown realm.
The latest chapter of God of War: Ragnarok builds on the happenings of Valhalla, the DLC provided by publisher Sony, which had been released in December 2023. This new story mainly sees the game’s protagonist, Kratos, undertaking a variety of deeply reflective quests in the Norse hall of honor, where he encounters flashbacks and spirits hailing from his Grecian past. This surprise extra content left many God of War enthusiasts taken aback, as they hadn’t been anticipating another chapter in the saga quite so soon.
Featured on Reddit’s God of War feeds, a user, known by the handle Typical_Swine_777, uploaded a picture of a stone bearing what seemed to be Norse runes, which they’d discovered in an EPCOT theme park, in the Norway area. Inquisitive about the possible message of the runes, the user sought translation assistance. However, skilled Redditors quickly put paid to any idea of hidden, profound Norse messages, pointing out that the runes were a mixture of styles, suggesting they were merely decorative additions to lend atmosphere to the theme park. This was a wake-up call to the many enthusiasts led to Norse mythology through games like God of War and Valheim.
What fans can expect from God of War:
- PC port of God of War: Ragnarok
- An additional chapter or sequel to God of War: Ragnarok
- Remakes or remasters of the original God of War trilogy
In the aftermath of God of War: Ragnarok, fans are keen to know what’s next. The game’s Antony Walker has hinted more narrative content is on its way, but whether that entails further Ragnarok DLC or a new game still remains uncertain. There are theories that a remake of the initial trilogy may be the next step, revisiting Kratos’ Greek origins. As of yet, though, there is no confirmation brought forth from Sony and Santa Monica Studio.
One solid fact from the developers is the PC version of God of War: Ragnarok. Sony has made it a habit to release all their console exclusives to PC. Initially, they took three to four years to bring PlayStation games to PC but advances have led them to achieve the same in one or two years. This suggests Ragnarok could be PC-ready before the year ends.
God of War: Ragnarok
This action-adventure game, a sequel to 2018’s God of War, is the conclusion of Kratos and Atreus’ journey through Scandinavia. Developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, it’s inspired by Norse mythology with the plot centering around the Ragnarok events.
The game was released on November 9, 2022, and is rated M for Mature due to the blood and gore, intense violence, and strong language.
